VetFran was born out of the desire of the late Don Dwyer Sr. – founder of The Dwyer Group, to say thank you to our veterans returning from the first Gulf War. Reborn and re-energized by his daughter, past IFA Chair, Dina Dwyer-Owens after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, VetFran’s ranks have grown to include more than 500 franchise systems that voluntarily offer financial incentives to veterans seeking to become franchise small-business owners. Through the VetFran program more than 6,300 servicemen and women have become franchisees and more are being added every month.
You must be an IFA member, but there is no cost to join VetFran. Eligible franchisors must be committed to providing qualified veterans with financial incentives not available to other franchise investors. Veterans get the best deal!
The franchising industry made history last week as the IFA launched Operation Enduring Opportunity, a campaign built off of our VetFran strategic initiative to hire and recruit 75,000 veterans and 5,000 Wounded Warriors as business owners and team members by 2014. IFA members held impressive local events in 10 cities, joining with veterans and federal, state and local officials to generate over 100 local news stories and convey to the nation our commitment to support those who have served this nation so bravely at their time of need by offering them opportunities in franchising.
Meanwhile, our partnership with The White House Joining Forces Initiative led to joint events and recognition by First Lady Michelle Obama, Veterans Administration Secretary Gen. Eric Shinseki, SBA Administrator Karen Mills and other federal and state leaders – garnering over 200 significant national media hits. Read more
Selected veterans will receive the same training as paying franchisees, and will travel to Southern California for a week of training with TeamLogic professionals to learn how to operate, develop and grow their business. They also get free marketing for three months, and daily phone conversations and support once the franchise is up and running. On November 2, IFA members participated in a webinar with Aneesh Chopra, the Chief Technology Officer of the United States, to preview the Veterans Job Bank, which President Obama unveiled during a White House press conference Nov. 7. The Veteran Job Bank is part of the National Resource Directory, a resource directory for veterans that will provides one site that veterans can use to search for job opportunities as they transition back into home life. I became the president of Mr. Rooter Corporation in 2006. Mr. Rooter is the largest all-franchised, full-service plumbing and drain cleaning company in the world with approximately 300 franchises worldwide. I was commissioned a U.S. Marine Corps officer in 1985. In my eight years as a Marine, I served as a logistics officer, achieving the rank of captain while on active duty.
